Beverly Hackett
Beverly kicked off her hiking career in the Adirondack Mountain Club of New York and eventually became a “46er”, climbing all the High Peaks over 4,000 feet. She took her love of hiking to Nepal, crossing 18,000-foot passes where the views were breathtaking, and so was literally everything else at that altitude. When she moved to the high country of southwest Colorado, she skied, snowshoed, and hiked in the San Juans and even climbed a couple of the “easier” 14ers. She also met her future husband, Warner Paige, while snowshoeing—proof that romance can bloom even when you’re bundled up like a walking marshmallow. Beverly moved to the desert in 2022, where former club president Don Bailey promptly recruited her as a hike leader, even though she knew nothing about desert hiking—unless you count “it’s hot and everything has spikes". "I love exploring everything the desert has to offer,” Beverly says, “and introducing new hikers to the trails in the Valley and beyond. The trails are a great place to meet people and make new friends… assuming they can keep up.”.

Warner Paige
Warner hails from Indianapolis and Telluride, which means he can handle both flat cornfields and mountains without breaking a sweat. He’s been in Sun City since 2022. With 25 years of experience leading hiking and snowshoeing trips in the mountains around Telluride, Warner has pretty much seen it all — from glorious summit views to hikers who swear they’re “not out of breath, just admiring the scenery.” He loves getting outside, meeting new people, and showing folks his favorite trails. Ask him his secret to a perfect day and he’ll tell you: “Easy….start with a picturesque trail, add good company and electrolytes, and finish with the same amazing hikers I started with! Warner leads easy and moderate hikes… because he’s wise, not lazy. And with a new robotically engineered knee, he’ll be hiking with renewed passion.

Ron Gleason
Ron started visiting Sun City in the late 90's and finally retired in 2023 so he could enjoy warm winters after many decades in cold and snowy Chicago. The trails give us ample opportunity to enjoy the sun, camaraderie and exercise. Scoping out BigHorn Sheep, lizards and wild tortoises is a bonus. Each hike is a new adventure, and the mountains are gorgeous, especially when you're on them!

Robert Heckert
Robert has been a resident of Sun City for 10 years. He started hiking in his teens in British Columbia, Canada with his brothers. After moving to the Coachella Valley, he began hiking the local trails with his son. He is now familiar with many and wants to share that knowledge with others as a hike leader. He likes to lead advanced hikes with a destination (peak, oasis, mine, historical interest) enroute. In addition to hiking, Robert plays a lot of pickleball and practices yoga. Staying fit and enjoying the outdoors is a priority.
