Lost Palm Oasis – Joshua Tree Natl Park, South Entrance

How lucky are we to live so close to the Southern Entrance of Joshua Tree National Park?  This is one of my favorite hikes, and I promise will not disappoint! The trail begins at the east end of Cottonwood Springs Oasis Road near the southern entrance to JTNP off of I-10. The oasis is reported to be the largest, or second largest, palm oasis in all of JTNP.  This is an out and back hike and at the end of mile 3.5, the trail ends at an overlook offering fantastic views down into the oasis.  We will stop here for a snack break and decide if some, or all, of us would like to take an optional loop into the oasis, before heading back to the trailhead and our cars.  Along the way we will enjoy views of the Salton Sea, Santa Rosa Mtns and Mt. San Jacinto along with hiking through some amazing groves of huge cholla.

To beat the heat, we will meet at 6:45 for a 7:00 departure.  You won’t be sorry!

  • Distance 7.4 miles
