South Lykken Trail

This is a 6-mile moderate/advanced up and back hike with an 1100 foot elevation gain. We will start at the southerly trailhead west of South Palm Canyon Drive. Our trek will traverse to the north and go steeply up with switchbacks. After the switchbacks the ground levels off and we walk across a plateau to the picnic tables which will be our destination. There will be great views of Tahquitz Canyon, Little San Bernardino and Santa Rosa mountains as well as Palm Springs.  The flowers are in full bloom, along with beautiful grasses, and often Bighorn Sheep. After reaching the high point we will stop for a snack and then return by the same route. Expect the hike to last 3.5 to 4 hours.

     This trail has very little shade.

     Bring plenty of water, snacks, poles if you’re so inclined, boots with good tread, and positive vibes!
